RECENT SERVICE AND FUN
In August, so far, Naches Lions have loaned medical/hospital equipment to over 50 people in need! That includes walkers to youngsters as young as 5 years (crutches are very hard to find and use for small children!) and to friends as old as 99 years!!
Our medical equipment loan program is available to people in need throughout the upper Yakima County, including Union Gap, Yakima, Selah, Naches, and the White and Chinook Pass areas.
On May 10th, Naches Lions were recognized at the Educational Service District #105 annual Awards Banquet. Naches Valley School District Board member, Patti Hyatt presented the Community Leadership Award to members of our Club. This was in recognition of the many services we have provided to the school district and to the community over the years. We are grateful to the school district, and proud to be able to help in some small way to make our community better.
We collected donations for the Sight and Hearing Foundation on White Cane Day. Thanks to all who volunteered and donated! We were able to send $500 to the Foundation.
Recently the Lions Health Screening Van visited Apple King and Price warehouses. Screening stations were staffed by Naches Lions volunteers, and over 130 warehouse employees were screened.
Also in May, a crew of Lions opened our cabin at Camp Prime Time, which is a great camp for families of special needs children. Now the cabin we sponsor is ready for the summer season!
In 2017 Naches Lions loaned out over 400 pieces of medical equipment to folks throughout the valley. In May we issued 62 items! Wheelchairs, walkers and hospital beds were the most popular items. But there are many other types of equipment in this program... crutches, knee walkers, lift chairs, shower chairs and benches, canes, blood pressure cuffs, and much much more. This project, which has been ongoing for many years, was aided last year by a generous grant from the Yakama Nation Legends Casino.
