RECENT SERVICE AND FUN
In 2017 Naches Lions loaned out over 400 pieces of medical equipment to folks throughout the valley. Wheelchairs, walkers and hospital beds were the most popular items. But there are many other types of equipment in this program... crutches, knee walkers, lift chairs, shower chairs and benches, canes, blood pressure cuffs, and much much more. This project, which has been ongoing for many years, was aided last year by a generous grant from the Yakama Nation Legends Casino.
Lions participated in Salvation Army Red Kettle Bell Ringing. We are proud to have collected over $500 for them! We also contributed $300 and took two youngsters Christmas shopping as part of the Salvation Army's Project 300.
Christmas Night in Naches, a celebration sponsored by Lions, Town of Naches, Naches Depot Cmte., and Mt Cleman Garden Club, was a huge success. Santa was there, bikes from Stewart Subaru were given away, the lighted trucks paraded through town, and folks got to ride in a horse-drawn wagon, warm themselves by the fire, and enjoy goodies and live music. What a great time! Selah Sweets has posted many pictures on their website.
The Veterans' Memorial at Depot Park is complete. A large American flag looks over the park, and is flanked by six more flag poles. Included on those are the flags of the United States Armed Services. Look here for pictures from the Dedication Ceremony on Veterans Day! Over 160 were in attendance.
Lions Clubs International celebrated their 100th Anniversary last summer! In 1917, Melvin Jones gathered friends and business associates in Chicago to form an organization committed to service. And Lions Clubs were born! At our dinner meeting in July, we had a birthday party to recognize this milestone. See the Gallery for a few pictures of the fun.
